CRAP - It’s What’s For Dinner

During a lengthy discussion about health, fitness, and food with the children on Monday night, both boys were asked to be 100% honest when answering questions as we learned together what we were supposed to be eating and how much. No one was in trouble. No one was going to be punishing anyone. I wasn’t going to be calling mom and “giving her the business.” We’re going to learn about this stuff together and in this house.
The following question was asked: When you go to McDonald’s - what do you typically order for your meal?
What S1 told me nearly had me falling out of my chair.
- A DOUBLE QUARTER-POUNDER WITH CHEESE.
- LARGE FRENCH FRIES.
- LARGE COLA
Complicating matters (and I’ve mentioned this before) - The Psycho Ex-Wife allows our 10-year old son to finish whatever S2 doesn’t finish of his meal. We brought it up on the website. Just his meal alone is 1,550 calories, most of it from fat. It’s about the entire caloric intake for an entire day for a boy his age (nevermind the health implications and lack of nutritional value).
I can’t even eat a double quarter-pounder with cheese.

My SD2 does the same thing. If we go anywhere, be it fast food or a sit down restaurant, she has to order the BIGGEST meal she can (be it a double quarter pounder or the “super breakfast” with 3 eggs, 3 strips of bacon, 3 sausages, 3 pieces of back bacon, homefries and toast).
But we have an opposite but similar problem from you. SD1 and SD2 are both overweight and gaining rapidly, they are teenage girls and should be able to make their own food choices most of the time. PEW feeds them junk, everything comes out of a box or a can (canned veggies, boxed, stuffed meat, kraft dinner - all processed foods, all the time). We feed them fresh or frozen vegetables (no sugar added) and boneless skinless chicken, fresh meat etc. (we rarely eat processed foods). PEW also has a cupboard full of chocolate bars, cookies, chips etc.
PEW will tell us that we don’t feed the children enough (a sandwich, apple and drink are NOT enough for lunch apparently) nor do we feed them proper meals and that she doesn’t blame them for not eating frozen vegetables because they taste bad (and other examples). But when the girls gain weight it is our fault because we feed them crap.
SD2 puts cheese on everything she doesn’t like as well. She is rapidly gaining weight and there is no way in hell she is going to fit into that expensive dress her mom bought her wear in June.

That is completly mad. I can’t believe she would do that to her child. It’s really, really sad.

Recommend that they read Eric Schlosser’s Fast Food Nation. That’ll learn ‘em . . . I think.
